Sand Tiger Shark – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Sand Tiger or Gray Nurse Shark:
The Sand Tiger Shark - also called the Spotted Ragged-Tooth or Gray Nurse Shark - is a large shark that can be found inhabiting coastal waters worldwide. Despite it's appearance, the Sand Tiger shark is generally not aggressive, unless it's provoked. Although attacks do occasionally happen, they are rarely fatal. Because of its large size and relative ability to thrive in captivity, it is often seen in public aquariums. The Sand Tiger shark feeds on fish, crustaceans, smaller sharks, rays and squid. The species is considered vulnerable due to overfishing, drift nets made worse by the shark's late maturation and low breeding success. Information about the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark:
The Scalloped Hammerhead Shark is a member of the family Sphyrnidae. This is a fairly large shark, though is smaller than both the Great and Smooth Hammerheads. This shark is also known as the bronze, kidney-headed or southern hammerhead. It primarily lives in warm temperate and tropical coastal waters all around the globe between latitudes 46° N and 36° S, down to a depth of 1,600 feet (500 meters). The Scalloped Hammerhead is a coastal pelagic species, it occurs over continental and insular shelves and in nearby deeper water. It is found in warm temperate and tropical waters, worldwide from 46° north to 36° south. It can be found down to depths of over 1,600 feet (500 meters ft) but is most often found above 82 feet (25 meters). During the day they are more often found close to shore and at night they hunt further offshore. Adults occur alone, in pairs or in small schools while young sharks occur in larger schools. On average, males measure 4.9 to 5.9 ft (1.5 to 1.8 m) and weigh approximately 64 lb (29 kg) when they attain sexual maturity, whereas the larger females measure 8.2 ft (2.5 m) and weigh 180 lb (80 kg) on average at sexual maturity. The maximum length of the scalloped hammerhead is 14 ft (4.3 m) and the maximum weight 336 lb (152.4 kg). Due to overfishing this species is considered endangered by several environmental groups. Sharks of the World Poster Print
There are estimated to be over one-thousand species of sharks alive in the world today. The evolutionary design of the shark is so near to perfect, it has hardly changed in millions of years. Despite their reputation, the vast majority of sharks pose no threat to humans, and in most attacks, it's often a case of mistaken identity. Due to over-fishing and the demand for shark fin soup, many species are now highly endangered. This poster print features fine art illustrations of various species of sharks (Chondrichthyes)
