It's best not to wear dark clothing when handling these birds, as their feathers produce a white powder like talcum which can be easily get onto apparel. They make very popular pets, which - while good for the people who love them - is bad for the bird as their numbers are in decline due to the fact that many are removed from their natural environment and sold in the pet trade. There are laws in place that prevent them from being removed from their home country, but these are often ignored or local officials paid off to look the other way. As pets, White Cockatoos are sometimes called 'Velcro birds' as they tend to stick very close to their owners.
