The Wolf Eel is a member of the family Anarhichadidae together with the wolffishes of the genus Anarhichas. These fish can grow to be 80 inches long (203 centimeters) and weigh 40 pounds (18.6 kilograms) They're native to rocky reef-type habitats from the intertidal zone down to about 740 feet. They can be found in the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Japan and the Aleutian Islands to nearly the entire coast of California. While they look fearsome, they're generally not dangerous and won't bite humans unless provoked.
