The Sumatran Rhinoceros is one of the five extant rhinos and the only living member of the genus Dicerorhinus. This rainforest dwelling mammal once ranged throughout the jungles of India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and much of Southeast Asia. But due to poaching (mostly or black market sales of their valuable horns) and habitat loss they live only in small, isolated areas in Sumatra, Borneo and Malaysia. They are the smallest of the living rhinos, standing about 4.5 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing about 1500 pounds. They are considered critically endangered.
