Rufous Hummingbird – Signed Fine Art Print

    $19.95 – $27.95

    Information about the Rufous Hummingbird:

The Rufous Hummingbird is a smaller hummingbird of about 3 inches long. The females are slightly larger. They're native to North America breeding from California to Alaska. During winter they migrate to Mexico which can be a journey of over 2,000 miles. While generally found in the western parts of North America they've been know to stray to areas as far east as Florida. They are extremely hardy birds and can survive fairly cold conditions. Like most hummingbirds the Rufous feed on nectar from flowers using a long extendable tongue. They will also feed on insects that they will catch in flight. Information about the Costa's Hummingbird:

The Costa's Hummingbird is a small species of hummingbird - an adult grows only to about 3.5 inches (7.6–8.9 cm) long. The male Costa's Hummingbird's most distinguishing feature is its vibrant purple cap and throat. Females are much less colorful than the males. The Costa's Hummingbird is native to the arid, brushy deserts and any nearby gardens of the Southwestern United States and the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico. Like other species of hummingbird the Costa's feeds on flower nectar and any tiny insects that it happens to find in the flower petals. The name is a tribute to the French nobleman Louis Marie Pantaleon Costa, Marquis de Beauregard (1806–1864). Xantus's Hummingbird

Xantus’s Hummingbird – Signed Fine Art Print

    $19.95 – $27.95

    Information about the Xantus's Hummingbird:

The Xantus's Hummingbird is a medium-sized hummingbird. It is  3.25-3.75 inches long (8-9 cm) and weighs about 3-4 g. It has been recorded as a vagrant up the Pacific coast of North America to British Columbia in Canada. This hummingbird is found in dry, semidesert forests and scrublands at a wide range of elevations, usually not far from water. It avoids the driest areas at low elevation. It will use human-created open woodlands such as orchards and irrigated shrubs. The breeding habitat occurs in various habitats of southern Baja Peninsula of Mexico where it is considered endemic. These birds feed on nectar from flowers and flowering trees using a long extendable tongue or catch insects on the wing. This hummingbird was named after John Xantus de Vesey (Xantus János), a Hungarian zoologist. Allen’s Hummingbird – Signed Fine Art Print

    $19.95 – $27.95

    Artist's notes:

The drawing of an Allen's Hummingbird was completed on 5.14.2011. This is the fifth illustration I've done of a hummingbird. Like the previous images, I chose to show the bird in flight, as I think this is the most attractive view of the animal. I had considered adding a flower to the drawing, but that would be somewhat incongruous with the other renderings. The drawing is based on a photo by David Marotta. Buy a Digital Download
