$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Surinam Horned Frog:
The Surinam Horned Frog, also called the Amazonian Horned Frog, is a large bodied frog measuring up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) native to the rainforests of Amazonian Basin of Colombia, Ecuador, the Guianas, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. It has an notably wide mouth – 1.6 times the size of the length of the frog’s body It also has horn-like projections above its eyes which give it it’s common name. The Surinam Horned Frog feed on a variety of prey, such as other frogs, lizards, and small mammals like mice. This species was once considered the same species as the Argentine Horned Frog (Ceratophrys ornata). This dispute was later settled because the Surinam Horned frog inhabits a different habitat than its smaller cousin and does not interbreed with it in the wild (but does in captivity).

Artist’s notes:
The Surinam or Amazonian Horned Frog was completed on 10.22.2013. This is the final frog of a collection of frogs from the Amazon Rainforest. Oddly, I struggled a little with selecting species, although I had nearly sixty different frogs in the image library and many of them from South America. But in the end, I used a mix of a few frogs I had already drawn and created 3-4 new ones. The drawing is based on a photo by Paul Barber and was used with his permission.
