Information about Wolves:
Wolves are largest members of the Canidae family. It is believed the lineage of the wolf can be traced back about 37 million years to North America. They are characterized by large, powerful jaws and bushy tails. They are also known They are the ancestors of all domestic dogs.
Most of the subspecies of wolves are either extinct in the wild, endangered or critically endangered. Because of the perceived threat of wolves to humans, they have been extirpated from nearly all of their historical ranges on all continents, except for the polar regions where development of land has been minimal.
The coats of wolves range in color from jet black, to red, yellow, orange to pure white. The thickness of their coats depend on the environment the animals live in. The coat of the Gray Wolf which lives in colder climates is very thick, whereas the Ethiopian Wolf’s coat is very light.
Due to the fact that wolves have spent so many centuries being persecuted my humans, they have become extremely secretive and are rarely encountered in the wild.
