The Surinam Horned Frog, also called the Amazonian Horned Frog, is a large bodied frog measuring up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) native to the rainforests of Amazonian Basin of Colombia, Ecuador, the Guianas, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. It has an notably wide mouth - 1.6 times the size of the length of the frog's body It also has horn-like projections above its eyes which give it it's common name. The Surinam Horned Frog feed on a variety of prey, such as other frogs, lizards, and small mammals like mice. This species was once considered the same species as the Argentine Horned Frog (Ceratophrys ornata). The Tennessee Cave Salamander is a member of the Plethodontidae family, which are lungless salamanders found mostly in the Western Hemisphere, from British Columbia all the way south to Brazil (however there are a few species in Europe and South Korea.) Gyrinophilus palleucus is native to the central United States, living in cave systems throughout central Tennessee, northern Alabama, and northwestern Kentucky. As the name implies, these amphibians are usually found in sinkhole-type caves or phreatic cave systems in the vicinity of sinkholes. This association is due to the nutrients that flow into these systems and the prey base they support.
