In this family are some of the largest scorpions in the world. Heterometrus longimanus, like most scorpions, is a nocturnal species which spends much of it's day hidden away in a burrow, or in a tree cavity or other forest litter. It emerges at night seeking prey, which is can subdue with it's large claws and venom tipped tail. The sting of this scorpion, while painful, is not usually fatal. They are sometimes kept as pets.
