Starfish and seastars are are star-shaped echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. They are found in only in salt water and in all of the world's oceans from the warm, tropical waters to the seafloors of the polar regions. Starfish are mostly carnivorous and feed on clams, mussels, oysters and other mollusks. They have strong suction-cup feet they use to move about the seafloor and also  pry open their prey.
