The Black Spiny-Tailed Iguana - also called the Black Iguana, or Black Ctenosaur is a large lizard native to the forests and jungles from Mexico to Central America. They have also been introduced and have established colonies in the Florida in the US. Speed tests have recorded this species as being the fastest lizard in the world. Large males can grow to just under 5 feet long (1.5 meters) with the females being somewhat smaller. While they are mostly vegetarians, eating fruits, flowers, leaves and stems they are opportunistic feeders and will take eggs and smaller animals and insects. They prefer rocky areas near trees, usually where they can hide in a crevice or climb a tree if they need to. Unlike the related Green Iguana these lizards to do domesticate well and are not as often kept as pets.
