The House Finch is a small member of the Fringillidae family. In the mid 20th century, they inhabited mostly just the western parts of North America, but since then they have been introduced into the eastern US and now can be found in nearly all but the extreme center of the continent. During this expansion, they have displaced the Purple Finch and House Sparrow. House finches are popular birdfeeder residents, often gathering in large numbers exhausting the feeder of all the seed. They will also eat berries, grains and seeds.
