The Striped Bark Scorpion is a commonly encountered scorpion native to much of the mid-section of the US and northern Mexico. It grows to be about 2.75 inches (70 mm.) This scorpion - despite it's popular name - spends most of it's life on the ground, usually under rocks, logs and other debris. The sting from this scorpion, while painful and may cause swelling, is not especially harmful and is very rarely deadly. Thousands of people are stung by this scorpion each year, usually when making accidental contact in and around human made structures.
