Rocky Mountain Elk – Signed Fine Art Print

Information about the Rocky Mountain Elk:

The Rocky Mountain Elk is sub-species of elk native to the mountainous regions of Rocky Mountains and other ranges west and adjacent to the Rockies. Elk are large mammals, with adult bulls usually weighing upwards of 700 pounds (225 kilograms) and standing 4.3 feet (1.3 meters) at the shoulders. Cow are about 60% smaller. Like many other species similar to the elk, such as deer, the social structure is based on a dominant male who has a number of females in his harem. These males will fight and attempt to drive off any other males who challenge them or attempt to mate with any of his females. The Rocky Mountain Elk has been the victim of Chronic Wasting Disease which has impacted some populations, but in general the sub-species is healthy with an estimated count of 800,000 in the wild. It is the state animal of Utah.
