Common Eland – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Common Eland:
The Common Eland - also called the Southern Eland or Eland Antelope - is a large two-toed ungulate native to the savannahs of east and southern Africa. It is the second largest antelope, with only the Giant Eland being larger. It stands about five feet tall at the shoulder (1.6 meters) with the males weighing roughly 1,200 pounds and the females being slightly smaller. The Common Eland is a herbivore feeding mainly on grasses and leaves. They travel in large groups numbering in the hundreds roaming the savannahs feeding on the grasses. They are predated on by most of the large African predators - lions, wild dogs, hyena and cheetahs. They do well in captivity and are common occupants of zoos around the world.
