Crossaster papposus
Common Sunstar – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Common Sunstar:
The Common Sunstar is a member of the family Solasteridae, which includes about 10 different genera of sea stars. This echinoderm is native to the coastal waters of both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, mostly in the northern parts. It is common along the coastlines of the northern European nations, along with much of the Pacific Coastline of North America. The animal gets it's name from the circular shape and large number of arms - usually between 8 and 14 - which resemble the sun. They are large, usually about 15 inches across (40cm) While they are generally found at depth of at least 5-10 feet, very low season tides will expose them to the open air. Currently there is a disease that is causing the population to waste away, and the cause is unknown. The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality: • Paper thickness: 10.3 mil • Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²) • Opacity: 94% Buy a Digital Download
