The Black-Tailed Rattlesnake is a large (28-48 inches or 70-120 cm) venomous reptile foun, from central Texas through western Arizona, and southward to the edge of the Mexican Plateau. The name comes from the distinctive black tail. It feeds on mice, rats, rabbits, other small mammals, birds, and lizards. It kills them by injecting venom through long, hollow, retractable fangs. The venom also helps the reptile digest the prey.
