The Black-Bellied Whistling Duck - formerly called the Black-Bellied Tree Duck - is a whistling duck that ranges from the coastlines of North and Central America down into the tropical rainforests of South America. They are usually about 19 to 22 inches (47 to 56 cm) weighing 1.44 to 2.2 pounds (652 to 1,020 grams) with a wingspan from 30 to 37 inches (76 to 94 cm.) Unlike some species of duck, the males and females look fairly similar. But unlike many other ducks, they are very comfortable perching in trees, and flocks of them - as they are very social - are often seen in the branches of trees. They will also congregate in open areas such as large lawns or golf courses. It is estimated the number of Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks in the world is about 1,550,000 birds.
