The Snowy Egret, also sometimes called the plumed egret, is a smaller heron of the order of Pelecaniformes. These graceful wading birds are common in sloughs, estuaries, shallow slow moving streams, lakes, coastal wetlands, marshes throughout North America. They are also commonly found in urban areas as well as cities as long as there is a food source for them. They are opportunistic feeders and will eat amphibians, small invertebrates, reptiles and fish. They birds will slowly move through shallow waters, plumbing the muck hoping to scare up prey. They will also stand still and ambush prey.
