Information about the Northern Shrike:

The Northern Shrike - also called the Great Grey Shrike or Northern Grey Shrike - is a large songbird native to much of the northern hemisphere. It can be found most temperate and subarctic regions in North America, Asia and Europe usually north of 50 degrees latitude. There are several sub-species scattered throughout much of the bird's range. While the Northern Shrike isn't considered endangered, some of these sub-species are through habitat loss. In general these birds are on the larger size, being 8.7 to 10 inches long (22 to 26 cm) and weighing around 2.1 to 2.5 oz (60 to 70 g.) They are formidable hunters, feeding on larger invertebrates and smaller vertebrates.
