Information about the Greek Tortoise:
The Greek Tortoise is a medium-sized tortoise native to the countries of the Mediterranean. It can be found in the dry, desert areas of North Africa, southern Europe, and southwest Asia. It is prevalent in the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus (from Russia Anapa to Abkhazia Sukhumi to the south), as well as in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Dagestan. Like other tortoises, it feeds on various types of plant matter and carrion. They are also very long lived and individuals can live to be well over 100 years old. They are very popular in the pet trade. Because of this the species is often collected illegally and this has put the species close to endangered in the wild.
