Willow Ptarmigan – Signed Fine Art Print

Information about the Willow Ptarmigan:

The Willow Ptarmigan - also called the the Willow Grouse or the Red Grouse in the UK - is a member of the family Phasianidae, which are a group of birds that includes pheasants and partridges. It is a somewhat inactive or sedentary species, spending much time in the undergrowth or perched in low bushes or scrubby trees. The plumage changes much for the bird from summer to winter, with the males having a marbled, brownish-red hue from the neck to breast. Both males and females molt their feathers in winter and become entirely white, to match the winter landscape. The Willow Ptarmigan is the official state bird of Alaska.
