Information about the South American Coral Snake:
The South American Coral Snake - also called the Large Coral Snake or Eastern Ribbon Coral Snake - is found in mostly in South America, east of the Andes, southern Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, the Guianas and Brazil, it is uncommon in Trinidad but is occasionally encountered by naturalists and photographers. It is dominant in the Amazon as it is well adapted to the rainforest where high temperatures and humidity exist. These snakes are venomous and a bite can be fatal if not treated in time. There are five known sub-species that have been indentified.
