The Painted Bunting is a member of the Cardinalidae family. It is sometimes described as the most beautiful bird of North America. When fully grown these birds grow to about 4.7–5.5 inches (12–14 cm) in length wth a wingspan of 8.3–9.1 inches (21–23 cm) weighing roughly 0.46–0.67 ounces (13–19 g) During the summer or breeding season these birds range from southern Arizona, southern New Mexico, southern and eastern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, northern Florida, coastal Georgia, the southern coast of South Carolina, and northern Mexico. In the winter they migrate to South Florida, Cuba, the Bahamas, along both coasts of Mexico and through much of Central America. When not breeding, the Painted Bunting feeds on plant matter such as grass seeds, and it will eat small invertebrates (spiders, grasshoppers, caterpillars, etc) when during the breeding season. The Purple Martin is is the largest swallow in North America. The average length is about 8 inches long (20 centimeters) Adult males are entirely black with glossy steel blue and purple sheen, where as adult females are dark on top with some steel blue sheen and have lighter areas on their underparts. These birds are highly skilled flyers, using great speed and agility in flight. When feeding, Purple Martins are aerial insectivores, which means they will pluck insects out of the air in mid-flight. They usually fly very high, and feed upon the insects in that area of the sky. In the winter, they make the long migration to the Amazon basin, returning to North America in the springtime to breed. The Great-Crested Flycatcher is a large bird of the family Tyrannidae, reaching about 7–8 inches in length (17–21 cm) with a wingspan of around 13 inches (34 cm.) They usually weigh about 0.95–1.41 ounces (27–40 g.) As their name makes clear, this bird feed primarily on flying insects, which is it extremely adept at catching mid-flight. The Snow Bunting - sometimes called a "Snowflake" by locals - is a member of the family of passerine birds. The bird is located in the northern hemisphere with a circumpolar Arctic breeding range. They are about 5.9 inches long (15 cm) with a wingspan of 11.8 inches (30 cm) and weigh about 1.1-1.6 ounces (31-46 grams) These birds can endure extremely cold weather down to -22 F (-30 c) which is when the males head to the breeding grounds in early April. They are omnivorous and feed on both plant matter and insects. The Snow Buntings flock in large groups, which has been compared to a snowstorm. They also nest together in groups of 20-40 couples.
