The Red-Bellied Woodpecker is a medium sized bird, native to the forests of the Mid-West and Eastern parts of North America. These birds like to hitch along branches and trunks of medium to large trees, quickly plucking at the bark looking for insects, which make up a large part of their diet. They will also eat seeds, acorns, nuts and fruits. They will also happily visit backyard bird feeders.
