The Periander Metalmark - also called the "Blue Doctor" or Variable Beautymark - is a species of butterfly native to the tropical and sub-tropical rainforests From Mexico, through Central and into South America. It is a member of the Riodinidae family. The common name of this butterfly "metalmarks" refers to the small metallic-looking spots commonly found on their wings. There are approximately 1,000 species of butterflies in the world. Most of these butterflies are found in the neotropical areas of both the Old and New World. There are five recognized sub-species.
