The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep is a subspecies of bighorn sheep native to the Rocky Mountains from British Columbia to Arizona. The name comes from the obviously large curled horns used in competition during mating season by the mature males. These competitions can last for hours, with the contestants occasionally suffering injures. These sheep usually live in herds with a dominate male, who are quite large, occasionally exceeding 500 pounds (230 kilograms) and females that can grow to over 200 pounds (90 kilograms).
