Leopard Seal – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Leopard Seal:
The Leopard Seal is the second largest seal in the Antarctic (the Southern Elephant Seal being the largest.) It is most often found along the icy, coastal waters surrounding Antarctica. The males or bulls generally grow to about 8.5 to 12 feet (2.5–3.2 meters) and can weigh to an astonishing 1,000 pounds. The females can grow even larger and heavier. It is a spectacular and fearsome predator, with only the Killer Whale and some of the larger sharks posing a threat to it. It feed mostly on penguins, fish, krill and even occasionally other smaller seals like the Crabeater seal. The Leopard Seal has a powerful jaw and a mouthful of very sharp canines. In fact, this animal can and will attack humans as there have been records of them trying to drag explorers into the water.
