Information about the Ichthyosaur:
The Ichthyosaur Shonisaurus is an extinct aquatic dinosaur and member of the family Shonisauridae. They are believed to have lived in the late Triassic period, about 215 million years ago. This fearsome predator is known from about 37 incomplete skeletons that have been found over the years, some of which were found in the Luning Formation in Nevada (of which that state selected the Shonisaurus as the state fossil in 1984.) The species was first found in a large deposit in Nevada in 1920. The Shonisaurus' name comes from "Lizard from the Shoshone Mountains" where it was first discovered.
