The White-Breasted Nuthatch is a small songbird of the family Sittidae. The bird measures 5-6 inches long (13–14 cm) and a wingspan of 8-11 inches (20–27 cm) A typical adult bird weighs about 0.64–1.06 ounces (18–30 grams) They're native to much of North America, and they prefer old-growth open deciduous or mixed forests, including orchards, parks, suburban gardens and cemeteries. Sitta carolinensis is omnivorous, eating plant material like seeds and nuts, but also eats small insects it finds hidden the bark of trees. It is also a common visitor to birdfeeders and hanging suet.
