The Violet-Green Swallow is a small swallow that is part of the genus Techycineta. They breed in semi-open areas in the Western North America all the way from Alaska to Mexico. They winter in Central and South America, migrating in large flocks. These attractively colored songbird usually nest in cavities in a tree or rock crevice or other protective area where the next can remain dry and the chick protected. Occasionally, several birds will cluster their nests forming small colonies.
