Eyelash Pit Viper – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Eyelash Pit Viper:

The Eyelash Pit Viper is a venomous pit viper species found in Central and South America. Small and arboreal, these snakes are characterized by their wide array of color variations, as well as the scales over the eyes - which resemble eyelashes. The eyelashes are thought to aid in camouflage, breaking up the snake's outline among the foliage where it hides. This is a relatively small species that rarely exceeds 30 inches (75 centimeters) long. Females are generally larger than males. The name "pit viper" comes from the pits which are located on either side of the head. These snakes exhibit a wide range of colors, including red, yellow, brown, green and even pink. These snakes are venomous and will bite humans if provoked. They live in tropical rain forests lowlands from southern Mexico (northern Chiapas), southeastward on the Atlantic plains and lowlands through Central America to northern South America in Colombia and Venezuela, and in parts of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The snake normally prefers lower altitude, humid, tropical areas with dense foliage, generally not far from a permanent water source. Having a strongly prehensile tail the snake is almost always found in the trees or rainforest canopy. It is largely nocturnal, consuming small rodents, frogs, lizards and small birds. A typical ambush predator, it waits patiently for unsuspecting prey to come along. The snake is named for the German ornithologist, Hermann Schlegel.

Gaboon Viper – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Gaboon Viper:

The Gaboon Viper, is also called the Gaboon viper, butterfly adder, swampjack, Gaboon adder or viper is a venomous snake native to the rainforests and savannas of sub-Sahara Africa. It is a very heavy snake weighing about 20 pounds (8.5 kilograms) and growing to a length of 70 inches (174 centimeters) These snake are usually found in the jungles and woodlands at lower altitudes, although they are also encountered in farmlands, plantations and swamps. Because Gaboon Vipers are so large, they have no problem killing and swallowing prey as large as fully grown rabbits, which they strike with extreme accuracy and speed. They will inject venom into the prey with their impressive fangs (some of the largest of all the snakes in the world) and hold onto it until the animal dies. They are not aggressive snakes, so when a human is bitten it is nearly always because the snake has been accidentally stepped on. When a bite does occur it can cause death because of the potency of the venom. $19.95$27.95

Information about the Mojave Rattlesnake:

The Mojave Rattlesnake is a venomous pit viper native to the arid high deserts and low mountainous areas of the southwestern United States and Central Mexico. They generally grow to about 3.3 feet in length (100 cm) although they can get as large as 4.5 feet long (138 cm.) The color varies in this snake, usually determined by the environment and surroundings. Some snakes are greenish in color, and are referred to as "Mojave Greens." Like other rattlesnakes, over the years the snake develops hollow areas on the tail, that it will rattle when it feels threatened. While their venom isn't particularly dangerous compared to other species, if untreated a bite can lead to death.
