Monterey County in Northern California has many different types of natural environments. In addition to it’s famous marine sanctuary, it is also home to Closed-Cone Pine Forests – Unique, fire-dependent forests consisting of rare native trees like the Monterey pine, Bishop pine, and Gowen cypress, Cypress Groves (which include the iconic Monterey cypress) and Coast Live Oak Woodlands. Within these natural areas live hundreds of different types of insects and arachnids, including spiders, beetles, butterflies, bees, scorpions and many more.
