Information about the Argus Monitor:
The Argus or Yellow-Spotted monitor is a large lizard of the the family Varanidae native to the northern regions of Australia and southern New Guinea, usually near a year round source of water. They can be up to five feet long and weigh up to 45 pounds, but the females are somewhat smaller than the males. This reptile is an adept and opportunistic predator, feeding on nearly any smaller animal it can overpower such as other lizards, insects, crustaceans, birds and fish. They are also exceptionally fast, usually using their speed to catch prey or flee from potential predators.
