Box turtles are small, primarily terrestrial, omnivorous turtles in the genus Terrapene, renowned for their hinged, highly domed shells that close tightly for protection. Ranging 4–7 inches in size, they live for 25–50+ years, feeding on plants, insects, and fruits. They require high humidity, hiding spots, and a varied diet, with males often having red eyes and concave shells.
