Kentucky hosts about 150 butterfly species, including frequently seen species like the Monarch, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, and the state butterfly: the Viceroy (which is often mistaken for the Monarch but distinguishable by an extra line on its hindwing.) These insects are crucial pollinators and can be found statewide in fields, gardens, and roadsides.
