Cooper’s Hawk Poster
The Cooper’s Hawk (Astur cooperii) are medium-sized, highly agile woodland hawks known for navigating dense trees to hunt birds. Common in North American suburbs and forests, they have rounded wings, long banded tails, red eyes, and a rusty-barred chest. These predators, often seen at bird feeders, use surprise, speed, and immense gripping strength to catch prey. The name was chosen to honor the naturalist William Cooper, one of the founders of the New York Lyceum of Natural History.
