Freshwater Turtles of the World Poster
Freshwater turtles are semi-aquatic reptiles with protective shells, needing both water and land for life. They’re commonly found in and around slow moving streams, lakes, bogs, marshes and swamps. These reptiles are characterized by webbed feet the use for swimming. Freshwater turtles typically omnivores, eating plants, insects, and small fish and occasionally carrion. They play a vital in their ecosystems as they keep insect populations down and seed dispersal.
The largest living freshwater turtle is the highly endangered Yangtze giant softshell turtle, while the smallest is generally considered to be the Bog turtle in North America.
