Snakes of the World Poster
Snakes are limbless reptiles known for their scales, forked tongues, and ability to hear without external ears. These reptiles are found on continents except Antarctica. They inhabit many different types of environments, including rainforests, deserts, oceans, swamps and mountains. They are carnivores, using their unique sense of smell – in effect “tasting” the air – to hunt and catch prey. Snakes possess powerful jaws to swallow prey larger than their heads. There are over 3,000 species existing, most of which are harmless, though about a third are venomous.
