Tortoises of the World Poster

Tortoises (Testudinidae) are long-lived, land-dwelling reptiles (a type of turtle) known for their domed shells, slow movements, and herbivorous diets. They thrive in diverse habitats from deserts to forests. They’re found on all continents except for Antarctica and Australia. They have stout, columnar legs for walking on land and can live for over 100 years, with some individuals exceeding 150 years. Their shells offer protection, and they communicate through behavior and vocalizations. Tortoises face threats such as habitat loss and species loss through the pet trade.
