Description

Types of Hummingbird Poster

Hummingbirds are tiny, vibrant birds native to the Americas. The “flying jewels” are famous for their unique ability to fly backward, hover, and zip at high speeds. They are powered by incredibly fast wing beats that create a “humming” sound – hence their name. Hummingbird or “hummers” have extremely high metabolisms, fueling themselves with nectar from bright, tubular flowers. They will also feed on small insects. Because of their high metabolism they require nearly constant feeding. Hummingbirds play a crucial role in pollination.

For more information on hummingbirds visit: Hummingbird CentralUS Fish & Wildlife Service, and Pollinator.org as they offer guides, species lists, and identification tips.
