Narwhal Whale – Signed Fine Art Print

$19.95$27.95

Information about the Narwhal Whale:

The Narwhal - or Narwhale - is a marine mammal native to the freezing waters of the Arctic. Is it a toothed whale and one of two species of the Monodontidae family (the other being the Beluga Whale . They are most noted for their characteristic "horn" which is really an overgrown tusk that grown out of a hole in the animal's upper lip. Biologists have pondered for years why the Narwhal has this tusk, as it seems to serve no purpose. The Narwhale spends much of it's time under pack ice, diving to depths of about 4500 feet or 1500 meters. They are an important food source for the native peoples of the Canadian Arctic and Greenland. While the extreme remoteness of their habitat keeps their populations mostly stable, climate change is having an effect on these whale as the ocean's waters warm up and the dense pack ice retreats further north each year. Information about the Pacific Walrus:

The Pacific Walrus is a pinniped and one of three sub species of walrus. They inhabit the Bering, Chukchi, and Laptev Seas. They're very large animals, with the bulls growing 10-12 feet and the cows 8-9 feet. They feed on clams, snails, crabs, shrimp and worms. Just like trees, you can tell the age of at walrus by looking at the rings in their tusks. The rest of the year (late summer and fall) the walrus tends to form massive aggregations of tens of thousands of individuals on rocky beaches or outcrops. The migration between the ice and the beach can be long distance and dramatic. In late spring and summer hundreds of thousands of these animals migrate from the Bering Sea to the Chukchi sea through the Bering Strait.
