The Speckled Racer Snake is a species of nonvenomous colubrid snake native to the Americas. The specific name, margaritiferus, means "pearl-bearing" in Latin, referring to the pearl-like spots on the dorsal scales. It's found from the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States south to Colombia. As it is the northernmost ranging species of Drymobius, it is sometimes referred to as the northern speckled racer. They are typically found in densely vegetated habitats near permanent water sources.
