The Texas Earless Lizard - a sub-species of the the Greater Earless Lizard is a reptile native to the arid deserts of North America, from the desert of Texas and New Mexico down into Mexico itself. They are called "earless" lizards because they and their close relatives have no external opening for the ears. They are diurnal and can be seek basking during the day, until the sun gets too hot and they retreat into a cool rock crevice or burrow to escape the heat.
