Information about the Swallow-Tailed Kite:

The Swallow-Tailed Kite is a member of the Accipitridae family. It's native to the woodlands and wetlands. They breed in the southeastern parts of the United States in the spring and early summer, but in the winter they migrate southwards to South America, and can be found in eastern Peru and northern Argentina. Swallow-Tailed Kites are about 20-26 inches long (50 to 65 centimeters) with a wingspan of roughly 3.7–4.5 feet (1.12–1.36 meters) Male and female individuals are very similar in appearance and size. They are very formidable predators, feeding on small lizards, large insects, smaller birds and mammals. While they are usually silent the birds will occasionally emit a very high-pitched chirp. While they are not listed as threatened or endangered, due to habitat loss their are growing more rare in the US.
