The Red-Knobbed Starfish - also called the red spine star, African sea star, African red knob sea star - is a member of the family Oreasteridae. It is a medium-sized sea star, growing to about a 12 inch diameter. The starfish is native to the warm coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific, usually not being found in depth below 300 feet (100 meters) Because of it's striking beauty and adaptability to live in captivity it is a popular addition to a saltwater aquarium. It is, however, incompatible with other invertebrates and will devour soft corals, sponges, tube worms and other starfish.
