The American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) is North America’s most common bear and is found across diverse forested habitats. While generally black in color, the bear can vary greatly in color –  brown, cinnamon and on rare occasions even white. Weighing from under 100 to over 400 lbs. The American Black bear is omnivorous, is an excellent climber and strong swimmers. Generally the bear is quite shy, but formidable when it feels threatened. While not considered endangered, they do face threats from from hunting and habitat loss.
