North Carolina is home to many different types of amphibians like frogs, toads, and salamanders. It has two official state amphibians: the Marbled Salamander (the official state salamander since 2013) and the Pine Barrens Treefrog (the official state frog since 2013). Amphibians are found in various moist, water-adjacent habitats like ponds, streams, lakes, swamps, and ditches, as well as damp woodlands, often hiding under logs, rocks, and leaf litter.
