Artist’s notes:
The Broad-Billed Hummingbird was completed on 5.30.2013. As I understand it, there are 13 species of hummingbird native to my adopted home of California – and I hope to be able to illustrate all of them, and perhaps moving on at some point to draw all native to the entire continent of North America. I enjoyed drawing the Broad-Billed because it’s coloration is quite different from the other species I had illustrated – more greens and blues which really give it that emerald jewel look. The drawing is based on a photo by Luis Villablanca.
