Information about the California Kangaroo Rat:
The California Kangaroo Rat is a desert dwelling rodent of the southwestern North America. As the name suggests, these small mammals use their large back legs to hop around the harsh terrains of the dry lands they inhabit. There are nineteen species of kangaroo rats. While they resemble jerboas and hopping mice, they are actually more closely related to pocket mice. These rats are mostly nocturnal and are not often seen in the daytime heat of the desert. The have a varied diet including seeds and other plant matter along with insects and other small invertebrates.
